BERKY employs an environmental Scientist

Biodiversity convservation and species protection as well as a more environmentally friendly interaction with nature when maintaining watercourses are becoming increasingly important in times of climate change. In Order to meet the new and complex requirements of the customers, BERKY hired an environmental scientist. In addition to advising customers on environmental issues, this new position also establishes a communication between the engineer, who knows and develops the machines from a technical point of view, and the customer, who uses the solutions and machines in the field. It is important to understand the problems, the customer is facing and how BERKY can help solving these problems in the best possible way, also by taking species conservation and nature protection into account. Furthermore, this position can help develop new and innovative methods and machines for a more ecological watercourse maintenance.

Michael Demanowski takes on the new role of the environmental scientist. He studied land use and water management at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, now Cottbus-Senftenberg. During his studies he particularly specialized in the field of biology, ecology and entomology. After graduating, he worked as a trainee, later as a scientific employee at the Landesmuseum Natur und Mensch Oldenburg in the field of natural history. Here, in addition to environmental education, he also managed the natural history collection of the museum, especially the insects. Before working for BERKY to seek new professional challenges, he also worked as a scientific project employee at the UNSECO Wadden Sea World Heritage Visitor Center in Wilhelmshaven. Here he helped to rebuild and scientifically update the museum’s outdated permanent exhibition.

Now with BERKY, he has an opportunity to make his own contribution to the protection of nature and aquatic habitats. By optimising and adapting tools and machines to more environmentally friendly requirements, and by educating and advising customers as well as BERKY employees, rivers and lakes can be maintained more gently and restored more efficiently in order to prevent floods, and to help BERKY become the “key for living waters”.
